Events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of Netherton Tunnel on August 20th 1858 were announced today by the organizers.

Designed to highlight major improvements to the Dudley Canals that were completed in 1858, the planned activities include historic boat displays, horse drawn boat demonstrations, narrated walks, arts and crafts displays and culminate with a gala re-enactment of the 1858 opening ceremony, 150 years on, to the day!

Organized by local canal enthusiasts the first event “How Nine Became Eight” will be held at the Delph Locks, Brierley Hill on June 7th and 8th. As well as exploring the old and new flights it is hoped to have a horse drawn boat working up and down the lock flight.
